Who will get the water of Mongara Dam

The temperature has touched 46 degree in Ambagadh Chauki block in Rajnandagao district in Chattisgarh. A group of six people of a remote tribal village were on 7 days foot march for a protest against Mongra dam

The journey ended in Mongra and visited almost 13 villages. The news also came that the government is willing to increase the length of dam by 17 kilometer and 5 feet in height. The padyatra has raised five crucial questions; what is the government’s rehabilitation policy and where is it? When will the right compensation decided? Dam’s water is for whom why it is not for irrigation and what is the right definition of development?

The message of Padyatra was to stop the construction of Dam. Apparently Mongara Dam has affected the agricultural land of 14 villages.

It has been almost five years since the formation of Mongra dam. But still compensation issue has not been resolved. In Mongara village the agricultural land of more than hundred people are drowned. More than 32 families are looking for compensation.

During padyatra, it was found that women farmers are not even aware how much land is drowning in the construction. Mongara dam board reveals that its water is for irrigation. But the area surrounding to it reveals the truth. The recent news to increase the length and height of Mongra dam has created a restlessness among people In the wake of power government forgets its core responsibility to look after the basic needs of people and the unfulfilled demands ultimately makes things astray.
