Lions and tigers are considered as boon to nature. The nature has given them liability to protect the forest. It’s a dismal fact that the same protector is in danger. The 11 thousand years old history of tiger is prosperous.
Despite of all problems and lacunas most of the tigers are found in Uttarakhand.
The species of Bengal tigers is found in Corbett national park and Rajaji National park which is considered the biggest species after the Siberian Tiger.
There are around 2100 tigers in entire world. The number of tigers in India are 1411, whereas in Bangladesh its 200,Nepal 150 and Bhutan 100. The decline in their number has become a matter of concern. Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi took initiative to save tigers in India. UPA president Sonia Gandhi took it further . In 2010 Manmohan Singh government declared the year as Tiger year. In 21st century the hunters in China hunted tigers in huge number. The Indian forest department officials and workers due to greed made the hunting a source for their income.
Indian government initiated the Tigers census in 1973 through project tiger. The first counting took place after 28 years in 1999 once the project was started. Then counting took place in the year 2003, 2005, and 2008. In 2005 the number of tiger’s declined to 241. In 2008 it declined to 178. The human settlement in mountains is a threat to the survival of tiger.
Government is trying to save tigers and any human interference is jeopardy for their existence
