Farmers Movement Against Land Acquisition

It seems that the life of the farmers has to be gutted by one tension or the other. Their suicide rates are increasing day by day. If the government will not listen to them or understand their plight then who else will look after them? Unable to get any help they find dying an easy and painless option. This is what they are left to do by the grace of our government which boasts to be on the side of the ‘common man’ always. Approximately, 1785 acres of land will be acquired to build Air Force Station in Tundala Block. Land will be acquired from 5 village Panchayats ( Pachkhora, Devkhera, Chikau, Himmatpur and Gadhi Harai.) There are 29 villages under these Panchayats which have a population of 85 thousand. The most affected area will be Pachkhora Panchayat as 1475 acres of fertile land will be acquired here and 60 acres land each will be acquired from the rest of the village panchayats. The farmers are in a state of shock after hearing this news but they are all united in a struggle to better die than letting anybody capture their lands.

The reason why the farmers are unhappy is because these are highly fertile land. Mainly potato cultivation is done here. These lands have got ‘A’ grade certificate by the consolidation department. The farmers have send memorandum to the President, Prime-minister, Defence minister, Wing Commander Air Force Station Agra, Chief-minister of Uttar Pradesh and DM Firozabad for not acquiring their lands. Some farmers have either committed suicide or they died after hearing this shocking news. Even the women are actively participating in this movement against land acquisition.

In a meeting organized in Burj Bhajan village a woman said that if the government does not listen to the villagers they will set themselves on fire publicly. Even after facing this huge movement the administration is not keen to take action. The villagers are thinking that the administration may soon give orders of land acquisition calling this step in favor of national interest. Due to this they will become homeless and will be forced to die out of hunger. There are some people who want to weaken this movement hence they are saying that the villagers are creating so much of hue and cry for nothing. The government will not acquire their lands for free, they will get genuine cost of their land and they can settle somewhere else with this money.

But the question is government can get many other cheaper and better options they why put the lives of thousands of innocent farmers at stake? Otherwise also the life of a farmer is very tough. On the top they hardly receive any help from the government. Now this step of the government will rob them of everything which they earned in their entire life. Government will for sure pay the farmers the cost of their lands but will it be sufficient for them to start their life afresh in an alien land? Will it be the cost of their emotions associated with their very own homeland? Certainly not. We do agree that there is nothing above national interest but before acquiring the land the government should have plans to settle these poor villagers. The bureaucrats should work upon the various ways which will help facilitate this hardworking gentry of India.
