The whole world witnessed massive destruction by tsunami in Japan. People in India need not be relieved that they will not be affected by nature’s wrath. In fact whenever India will face tsunami or earthquakes there will be even more destruction than Japan as we are not prepared for it. Scientists are saying that India may face even more earthquakes than Japan did and that too all of a sudden. Environmentalists are warning that earthquakes can occur in India at any point of time. The reason being that sub-continental plate is moving towards the Asian plate gradually. So, the area around these plates may face tsunami or destructive earthquakes.
In terms of earthquake zones India is divided into 5 zones. All states in Northeast, Jammu Kashmir, some parts of Himanchal Pradesh & Uttarakhand come in zone 5. This zone is the most sensitive one. Some parts of Uttarakhand situated at a lesser height, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi fall in zone 4. This zone too is quite sensitive. Central India comes in zone three and is a little less sensitive but maximum places of Southern India falling in zone 2 are highly sensitive.
Changes in sub-continental plates alone will not be responsible for destruction in India. Nuclear plant units alone can bring devastation. There are 20 nuclear units in India and if fault occurs in them then it will be equally dangerous as tsunami or earthquake. According to the Met department within 21 days in the month of March 55 earthquakes have already occurred. Earthquake scientist of Met department says that India is receiving so many earthquakes because of tsunami in Japan. Scientists also say that earthquakes are a result of various chemical reactions occurring within the earth or sea.
Scientists are also saying that India and Tibet are coming closer by two centimeters every year. This is creating pressure on Himalayan belt. Due to this very reason 6 major earthquakes have come in the Himalayan region in last 200 years. The only method by which nature reduces pressure is earthquakes. This implies that nobody can stop the occurrence of earthquakes. The only thing which is in our hands is prevention and to find safety measures to face natural calamites. Time has come that we should take proper measures to save Mother Nature and save our selves by developing safety measures as we can fall prey to natural calamities at any point of time.
