Mr. Santosh Bhartiya, the most Credible and Fearless journalist of our times, is the Editor-in-Chief of Chauthi Duniya, India’s First Hindi Weekly. His approach to journalism is unique but difficult. Today, he is the last man standing in the order where journalism is understood to be for the people. Mr. Santosh Bhartiya is a veteran commentator on politics who never forgets the face of the last man in the social order. His writings are meant to be understood and admired by every common man. He is a man who believes in creating history. He is credited for revolutionizing the nature and approach of present day print as well as television journalism in India.
He is the pioneer of making the election coverage people-centric from being leader and political party-centric. It was his idea of directly involving the voter and common people in the television discussions and bringing the candidates face to face with the voters, which he implemented during the assembly elections of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi & Chhattisgarh in the year 2003. This pioneering endeavor of Mr. Bhartiya compelled all the other TV channels to follow suit during the Lok Sabha Election of 2004 and has become standard practice today.
Santosh Bhartiya started his journalistic career from Hindi weekly RAVIVAR, a prestigious & popular publication of Anand Bazar Patrika and went on to become the Special Correspondent of RAVIVAR. Chambal as we know today is due to him. He was the first journalist who brought out the political and social aspects of the Chambal Valley. Santosh Bhartiya is the journalist who did the first ever interview of the Bandit Queen Phoolan Devi and it was he who wrote about the story of Phoolan & Vikram Mallah. This is just one example. Mr. Bhartiya is a pioneer in the field of Investigative Journalism and field reporting. He has broken more than 500 news stories, which finally remained un-contradicted and unchallenged. After that Mr. Bhartiya shifted as Special Correspondent to THE TELEGRAPH, an esteemed English daily of the same group.
Santosh Bhartiya become one of the very first TV journalists of India when he created a furore in electronic media as a Special Correspondent of NEWS LINE, the first news and current affairs programme on DOORDARSHAN.
He became Chief Editor of CHAUTHI DUNIYA, the first Hindi Weekly Newspaper in the history of Hindi journalism in India, which not only established a milestone in Indian journalism but was also considered as a trendsetter. Santosh Bhartiya is all set to set another benchmark in the history of Indian journalism. As we know, by 1993 most of the leading weekly newspapers like Dinman, Sunday Mail, Dharamyug, Ravivaar closed down. It is only Chauthi Duniya which has again been launched. In its second innings, Chauthi Duniya became the First 7 colour newspaper on Glazed paper printed on heat set. The content and quality of Chauthi Duniya is such that many people say that Chauthi Duniya is the first magazine on broadsheet and some even say that it is a television on broadsheet. Like Mr. Santosh Bhartiya, Chauthi Duniya, the weekly newspaper which stands for truth, stands with the masses especially the struggling population residing in the rural areas. It is due to the vision of Mr. Santosh Bhartiya that Chauthi Duniya won back the credibility and respect of the print media in public mind. On 9th December 2009, Loksabha witnessed an unprecedented scene as many of the agitated members of Parliament were waving the copy of Chauthi Duniya and asking the government to table the Rangnath Misra Commission Report. Similar scenes was seen in Rajya Sabha too.
CHAUTHI DUNIYA did break the news of “Hashimpura” killings at the banks of ‘Gang-Nahar’ by PAC during the infamous Meerut riots during 1987-88. The story published in CHUTHI DUNIYA was republished in several newspapers & journals around the world. CHAUTHI DUNIYA became the leading light for the humane, secular & logical journalism in the Hindi media. It was the only paper of its kind, the news items of which, were reproduced several times in the English media. Many of the leading figures in Electronic and Print media today trace their roots back to CHAUTHI DUNIYA.
During this period the elections for 9th Lok Sabha of Indian Parliament were announced. Santosh Bhartiya was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Farrukhabad Constituency of Uttar Pradesh and became the Member of Indian Parliament. He also became the member of PRESS COUNCIL OF INDIA. He is also a former member of Advisory Committee of RNI (Registrar of Newspaper for India).
